The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) and the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications have jointly released a new code governing digital and social media advertising in Ghana, effective January 2026.
Key Provisions
The framework covers influencer disclosure requirements, data collection consent, prohibition of misleading health claims in digital formats, and new rules around targeting children under 13.
Brands running paid social campaigns will be required to label sponsored content across all platforms — not just those with native disclosure tools — and retain records of campaign briefs for up to two years.
Industry Response
Industry players have largely welcomed the clarity. The Ghana Association of Advertising Agencies noted that the guidelines bring Ghana in line with UK and South African standards, making it easier for multinationals to adapt global campaigns for the market.
